PH Red Cross releases P455-million aid for BARMM peace project, ‘Odette’, ‘Agaton’ victims – Manila Bulletin

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon reported a total of P455 million worth of humanitarian and development assistance released by the organization since December 2021.

“The figure represents only the cost of the humanitarian organization’s TY Odette response, TD Agaton response, and Peace and Development Project in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDBARMM),” PRC said in a statement.

According to PRC, the organization’s Covid-19 response is not yet included in this budget.

PRC added that the distribution of this amount for the said projects will last until September 2022.

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, PRC distributed P5,000 cash and emergency shelter assistance to over 800 families affected by typhoon Odette in San Francisco, Pintuyan, and Hilongos in Southern Leyte.

The emergency shelter assistance includes corrugated galvanized iron sheets and shelter tool kits, PRC said.

Also, 587 families in Baybay City, Leyte who were severely affected by typhoon Agaton received the same aid.

This initiative for typhoons Odette and Agaton victims is in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the German Red Cross, the Spanish Red Cross, and the European Union.

This will also cover areas in Palawan, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Bohol, Dinagat Islands, Siargao, Surigao del Norte, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur, PRC noted.
