The Bottom Line: What is a Wrangler? Wrangler is a series of compact and midsize 4 wheel drive off road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently is in its fourth generation. From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with several long wheelbase 4 door versions, called Wrangler Unlimited.

The Jeep Wrangler is classified as a SUV sport utility vehicle. You can get a 2 door Wrangler, or a 4 door Wrangler, so based on what type you buy, you will have a compact SUV, or a midsize SUV. Not only are they both SUVs, but they are also RWD rear wheel drive, and 4WD four wheel drive off-road vehicles.

The Wrangler is famous for its durability, and its versatility. Wrangler has been a favorite for Jeep’s special edition designers for years, as the Wrangler has been offered in over a dozen special editions, since its premier over 35 years ago.

This week Jeep sent me a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4XE Hybrid Soft Top SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this model starts at $51,525. The options on the test Jeep are: the silver metallic clear coat paint for $295, the cold weather group for $995, the safety group for $995, the advanced safety group for $795, the trail rail management system for $195, a soft top window storage bag for $75, the remote keyless entry system for $695, and the premium black sunrider soft top for $595.

The total MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,595 destination charge, came to: $57,760. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the total out the door purchase price came to: $64,980. That’s right folks, a nice 4 door, 4 cylinder, mild hybrid, 4 wheel drive, Jeep Wrangler Sarara, can set you back just $20 bucks shy of $65,000.

So, what do you get for your $65 Grand in today’s dollars? A really nice, trail ready, hybrid, 4 wheel drive, SUV that has virtually every option that Jeep can put in it, or on it. It’s the longer wheelbase Unlimited upscale Sahara 4 door model with a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder PHEV engine, bolted to a 8 speed PHEV transmission, coupled to an electronic Selec-Trac 4WD 4 wheel drive traction system.

And what does PHEV mean? PHEV stands for a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle. It’s got a bigger battery than a Self-Charging Hybrid, and can give you up to 25 miles of pure electric driving range. When that electric range is depleted, the vehicle automatically switches to Self-Charging Hybrid mode, with regenerative braking, while driving on the gas engine. A PHEV plug-in electric hybrid vehicle is the best of all drive trains in really saving the planet from global warming.

The new plug-in electric 2021 Wrangler 4XE is a new breed of Jeep, from Jeep. Off road adventure meets electric efficiency, in the charge towards the future. With the combination of the all electric and gas driving range of 370 miles, the Wrangler 4XE is a plug-in hybrid electric SUV that powers plenty of adventure. Take off road exploration to new places, or get around town on all electric power. The new Wrangler 4XE makes it all possible.

Climb over tough obstacles and go an electrifying 0 to 60 mph in just 6 seconds. The plug-in 2.0 liter hybrid turbocharged engine and the electric motor gives the Wrangler 4XE an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant torque for heart pounding performance for on road, or off road.

This Wrangler Unlimited Sahara has all the things that make it super special, like a leather wrapped steering wheel, extra comfortable heated and leather covered front seats, a Rubicon trail rated drive train, a full body folding fabric convertible top assembly, 4 removable doors, a drop down windshield, an electronic 8.4″ center stack screen with navigation, a set of five 20″ x 8″ wide aluminum alloy wheels with 275/55/R20 BSW all season tires, an Alpine Premium Audio system, advanced driving and collision avoidance systems, front and rear tow hooks, side body steps, plus 44 lines of additional interior, exterior and optional equipment listed on the window sticker.

So, when you’re ready to buy a new SUV the Wrangler should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s the one of the best off road SUVs for sale today. Call, click or visit your local Jeep dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on a new 2021 Wrangler Unlimited. And remember, that the base window sticker price for a new Jeep Wrangler starts at only $28,870. Jeep, Since 1941.
