Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

At the end of the day, the tight space access you get from Wurth Wire Stripping Pliers is a huge advantage for electrical work in automotive, marine, construction, and more. It's a design that can let you finish off connections that standard strippers simply can't get to. No matter what sector your electrical work lands you in, we recommend you have a pair to supplement your standard strippers.

While Wurth Zebra Wire Stripping Pliers come from a brand that targets the automotive sector, the design is something electricians across multiple trades should consider.

If you’ve spent much time stripping or cutting wire, you can see the advantage of Wurth Zebra Wire Stripping Pliers immediately. The stripping/cutting edges are in the jaw tips rather than down the length of the jaws, allowing you to access wire in spaces you can’t with a standard set of strippers.

One of the trade-offs you have to make for the tight space access is a manual wire gauge adjustment. A thumbwheel to the outside of the jaw lets you set the max jaw closure. Once you have that dialed in, the thumbwheel to the inside lets you lock it down. It’s really convenient when you’re working with a lot of the same gauge wire.

In practice, we were able to strip a lot of wire by feel without setting the jaw depth. We were most effective on solid wire and it worked decently for stranded as well. You’ll get the best and most consistent results if you take the time to set the wheels, though.

Wurth’s Zebra 2K grip handles are comfortable and add some welcome cushioning when you have to really clamp down to cut thicker wires. They’re also spring-loaded, letting you work easily with one hand.

One of the really nice benefits of the design is that it covers a wider range of wire gauges than most standard stripper. You can cut and strip from the smallest gauge to around 7 AWG or so.

They’re also solidly built from high-quality steel. There’s no danger of overlapping the jaws the way you can with thin, cheap strippers and the joint allows for virtually no play.

You do miss out on a couple of things, though. There’s no wire loop or screw shears that electricians often use on standard strippers.

At the end of the day, the tight space access you get from Wurth Wire Stripping Pliers is a huge advantage for electrical work in automotive, marine, construction, and more.
